Earlier today at Terminal 8, the TSA introduced new backscatter X-ray full-body scanners that can see through clothing and will screen passengers for metallic and non-metallic threats including explosives. At around 1:15 p.m. yesterday, a Newark airport terminal was evacuated because an unscreened baby was on the loose. A mother and infant had walked through a metal detector, setting it off, so the mother passed the potentially explosive child to her already-screened husband before walking through the detector again just herself. A clever deception.
