The Roots Play Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together’ for President Obama on Fallon [Updated]

Update: Go figure. For President Obama’s walk-on song on Fallon, The Roots chose an inoffensive tune that Obama himself sang earlier this year at the Apollo Theater: Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.” The Roots are so in love with Obama. Our earlier suggestions for the walk-on song are below, and remain viable options for a return appearance.

Original Post: When Michele Bachmann stepped onto the set of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last November, the Roots infamously welcomed her with a song called “Lyin’ Ass Bitch,” which was not very nice. At the time, we suggested that an equally brutal walk-on song for President Obama would be The Who’s “Won’t Be Fooled Again.” Well tonight, Obama will appear on Fallon for real, and the Roots will have to play something for him. While the chances of the band undermining Obama are pretty much zero — not only is he, you know, the president, but Questlove’s Twitter icon is a photo of himself with his arm around Obama — here are five more options for an alternate universe in which they decide to get cheeky.
