Man’s Body Found Near Stable Where Kentucky Derby Winner ‘I’ll Have Another’ Was Victory Napping [Updated]

Police made a pre-dawn visit to the area behind the Kentucky Derby track, where a man’s body was found in a barn just four down from where last night’s winner, I’ll Have Another, was being housed. The Southern California–based horse — whose name is apparently a reference to its owner’s addiction to chocolate chip cookies, not alcohol — was only the ninth favorite in the race, and had only ever been ridden three times before by the winning jockey, Mario Gutierrez, making his win a fairly major upset. So far, the man’s identity and the cause of death remain unknown, though police are currently investigating the possibility of a homicide.

Update: Police have identified the victim as 48-year-old Guatemalan Adan Fabian Perez. “We found evidence of injuries that lead us to believe he was involved in an altercation and that foul play was involved,” Louisville Metro Police spokewoman Alicia Smiley told ABCNews.com. Police have not specified the nature of Perez’s injuries, nor have they determined what triggered the fatal altercation.
