It turns out that exam preparation company Princeton Review is better at tutoring than cheating (allegedly). On Tuesday, federal prosecutors and the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Inspector General filed a civil fraud lawsuit in Manhattan against The Princeton Review Inc. for submitting bogus reimbursement claims for millions of federal dollars that were intended to bring tutoring services to struggling New York City students. “The Princeton Review and its employees were supposed to tutor needy students, not cheat a federal program,” U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a statement concerning the activity that lasted from 2002 to 2010. The lawsuit notes one instance in which a child’s name, “Dontae,” was misspelled “Donate” in a (Freudian) slip.
