Custody Battle Over $1 Million T-Rex Skeleton Comes to Chelsea

A complete 24-foot-long, 8-foot-tall Tyrannosaurus bataar skeleton is currently sitting in an art storage facility somewhere in New York City while a bunch of grown men, including the U.S. Attorneys Office and the government of Mongolia, fight over it. The “perfectly assembled” fossil was sold in Chelsea for $1,052,500, despite the protestations — in the middle of the auction — of a Texas lawyer, who believes the bones were looted from Mongolia. Yesterday, the Times reports, a Manhattan judge signed an order turning over custody to law enforcement, so the high bidder’s idea of an adventure 65 million years in the making (presumably a Ronald Reagan–T.Rex hybrid) will have to wait.
