
Because Mitt Romney has been very rich for a long time, and probably wouldn’t even know what to do with more money if he had it, he hasn’t accepted a salary in quite a while. As ABC News reports:
During the 2008 primary campaign, Romney said he would donate his salary to charity. In Massachusetts he declined his $135,000 a year salary. At the Olympics, which he headed for two years, he said he would only accept the $250,000 pay check if the games made a profit. When the Olympics were financially successfully [sic] he turned that money over to charity.
Presumably Romney, still having more money than God and Usher combined, would once again refuse his $400,000-per-year presidential salary, should the situation arise. But asked about it earlier today, Romney, oddly, wouldn’t say:

ABC NewsRomney should feel free to take his salary or not take it, but we don’t see why he needs to be mysterious about it. Unless he’s planning on surprising everyone by flying over his inauguration in a helicopter and showering $400,000 in singles on the scurrying masses below, but that would be a huge safety hazard and totally irresponsible. Shame on you Mitt Romney, if you’re thinking that.
