On Sunday, Romney adviser Eric “Etch A Sketch” Fehrnstrom made another controversial remark about campaign strategy. Fehrnstrom told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that the Obama campaign was going to try to play the distraction game. “He’ll govern as a pro-life president, but you’re going to see the Democrats use all sorts of shiny objects to distract people’s attention from the Obama performance on the economy,” said Fehrnstrom. “This is not a social issue election.” The remark was widely interpreted as a condescending one, effectively belittling “women’s” issues like reproductive health, but we’re willing to take Fehrnstrom at face value. Democrats do have an awful lot of shiny objects at their disposal they can use to distract voters, after all! For instance, he could have meant that voters will be completely distracted by:
- James Carville’s bald head
- Joe Biden’s freshly washed Trans Am
- Reggie Love’s smile
- Michelle Obama’s maroon Thakoon dress
- Bo Obama’s water bowl
- Bill Clinton’s wedding ring
- Mitt Romney’s stash of gold
