A Car Blew Up and Set a Building on Fire in Midtown Today

At around noon, a car parked on 56th Street and Lexington “exploded multiple times” after the underground transformer below it caught on fire. The blaze spread to an adjacent sixteen-story condo building; it burned for over an hour before the 80 firefighters called to the scene were able to put it out.
