Protesters Blocking Bridge Fall for ‘Ambulance Is Coming’ Trick

Some remnants of Occupy Wall Street gathered at Zuccotti Park this morning for a demonstration against the Citizens United decision, culminating in an attempted blockade of a Brooklyn Bridge exit ramp. Civil disobedience is rarely as glamorous as in old-timey photos, but the Village Voice describes a particularly disheartening scene: First, the sacrificial protesters, all tied together, didn’t have enough chain to reach across the street. Then, once in position, an impatient motorist guilted them into moving by claiming an ambulance was coming. (It wasn’t.) Finally, three people were arrested, their “Corporations are not people!” cries drowned out by passing cars and a police megaphone. Good job, good effort.
