An unusual clash over individual and states’ rights sparked in the front lawn of 73-year-old Alabama man James Davis, who, to the dismay of the city of Stevenson, buried his wife Patsy alongside their log home in 2009, the Associated Press reports. A judge ordered Davis to disinter Patsy and move her to a licensed cemetery; however, Davis has appealed the decision, arguing that the grave constitutes a “family burial plot” that the city may not regulate. While it probably won’t hold up in court, Davis himself made a compelling argument: “Good Lord, they’ve raised pigs in their yard, there’s horses out the road here in a corral in the city limits, they’ve got other gravesites here all over the place.”
