The city’s Board of Elections has heard New Yorkers’ complaints about the nearly illegible ballots used in primary elections, and after working tirelessly for nearly two weeks, they’ve managed to bump up the font on November’s general election ballots by two whole points. The New York Times reports that the ballot designers had a “breakthrough” that allowed them to achieve a nine-point font: “if lengthier names were broken up across two lines of type, the bigger letters could fit.” There’s a ballot redesign effort afoot in Albany, but the Board says that under current state law it can’t do anything else to help New Yorkers see who they’re voting for.
