NYPD Seriously Investigating Fake Propaganda Posters That Dare Mock the Police

Coinciding nicely with yesterday’s Occupy Wall Street anniversary celebration was a guerrilla art installation that saw Soviet-style propaganda posters for the NYPD installed in a few downtown phone booths. The satirical ads include slogans like “Drones: Protection When You Least Expect It,” and an Orwellian portrait of Mayor Bloomberg with the misspelled (!) tagline “Always Wathching,” as photographed here by reporter Michael Tracey. Department spokesman Paul Browne shrugged the stunt off with a bad pun — “[it] appears to be NYPD critics subjecting us to a droll attack” — but photos from the crime scene today, published by Gothamist, show a far more intense response: An officer wearing a surgical mask appears to be dusting for fingerprints. Hopefully they catch this monster before anyone else’s feelings get hurt.
