Minnesota Is the Johnny-Come-Lately of Swing States

What a Minnesota stamp used to look like.

When the Romney campaign began airing ads in Minnesota over the weekend, many assumed that it was merely part of the Republican’s strategy of creating the appearance of momentum. After all, Minnesota hasn’t gone red in a presidential race since 1972, and President Obama beat John McCain there by 10.3 percent in 2008. This is a state that made a Saturday Night Live alum a senator. But then a Star-Tribune poll on Sunday showed Obama up by a mere three points, and the Obama campaign is apparently concerned enough that it’s sending Bill Clinton to the state during the campaign’s precious final week. There is only so much Clinton charm to go around and they’re using it on Minnesotans! That’s not nothing.
