During his afternoon update, Mayor Bloomberg announced that New York City schools will remain closed for the remainder of the week, sending a shudder through the already frazzled community of local parents. (For better or worse, Halloween candy stashes will probably be low as well.)
Bloomberg also declared that any car entering Manhattan via bridge or tunnel must be carrying at least three passengers from 6 a.m. to midnight, with the exception of the George Washington Bridge, in hopes of easing the traffic situation. As for athletic events, the Nets season opener against the Knicks at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center is off, while Sunday’s New York Marathon is a go. Asked if the city will be back to normal by Monday, Bloomberg replied, “Do you believe in crossing your fingers? I hope so.”
