Romney Won’t Explain the Evolution of His ‘47 Percent’ Defense

In an interview with Mitt Romney on Tuesday, Wolf Blitzer laid out how the candidate has gone from standing by his “47 percent” remark, but saying it was “not elegantly stated,” to declaring last week that he was “just completely wrong.” “How did that evolution in your thinking go on?” asked Blitzer. Rather than answering the question, Romney said, “the words that came out were not what I meant.” Interestingly, he then blends in a bit of the old “pretend I was talking about something entirely different” strategy, suggesting that rather than saying Obama supporters see themselves as “victims,” he was merely talking about how he knows he won’t get 100 percent of the vote.
