Republican Slips Right Through Grover Norquist–Pledge Loophole

New York representative Chris Gibson has explained away his broken promise to anti-tax king Grover Norquist on the grounds of a glorious technicality brought on by redistricting: “The Congressman signed the pledge as a candidate in 2010 for the 20th Congressional District,” his spokeswoman said today. “Regarding the pledge moving forward, Congressman Gibson doesn’t plan to re-sign it for the 19th Congressional District, which he now represents (the pledge is to your constituents of a numbered district).” According to state law, Norquist has no recourse because you may not triple-stamp a double-stamp.
