Hurricane Sandy’s repercussions have trickled down to the region’s gas supply, debilitating our iconic yellow taxis. We took a ride down to the just-powered Lower East Side with one working driver who had really thought outside New York’s borders, convincing family members to drive in 70 gallons of gasoline from Connecticut and Pennsylvania so he could continue to pick up fares. Another cabbie at a dry station at 131st and Broadway tried to channel a more Zen attitude, despite searching two hours for a fill-up with no luck.
