President Obama Will Be Back From Hawaii Before You Know It

Early this morning, President Obama and his family landed in Hawaii for what sounds like an only sort of relaxing Christmas vacation (at least for the adults.) Because Obama needs to get back to D.C. to continue fiscal cliff negotiations, the trip will last only four days, and one will be spent attending the funeral of Hawaii Senator Daniel Inouye, who Obama called “an inspiration” (and shed at least one tear for) earlier this week. He’s also expected to engage in some more fun activities, including golfing, eating shave ice, and spending a night out with friends. Before they left, the president and Michelle recorded a video message in which they thanked members of the military and their families for their service and praised civilians for helping out victims of Hurricane Sandy and extending their thoughts to the people of Newtown. Obama also wished everyone happy holidays on behalf of his “favorite Americans” — Michelle, Sasha, Malia, and Bo the dog. Weirdly, John Boehner didn’t make the cut.
