While we’re pretty sure “standing in the middle of sidewalks” is a tourist’s number-one goal while on a trip to NYC, Mayor Bloomberg assures that it’s in fact “visiting a cultural institution.” Visitors to our fair city sure did a lot of both last year, because, according to the New York Times, 52 million tourists walked our sidewalks in 2012, 2.1 percent more than the year before. “The bottom line is we’ve just got to keep making New York more exciting and more attractive,” Bloomberg said, announcing his goal to bump us up to 55 million visitors by 2015. Get ready for foot traffic to get even more crowded.
