City Launches Sexy New App for Teens

The Bloomberg administration’s effort to transmit information about sex to the youth continued today with the launch of an app called Teens in New York City Protection+. (The name could use some work.) The new program from New York City’s Department of Social Services, which is available for iPhone and Android, provides teens with important information about where to get free birth control, as well as pregnancy, HIV, and STD testing in all five boroughs. There are also “videos developed with and for teens” to better explain things like “What to expect at the clinic.” Though there’s talk of parents disapproving of the newfangled service, Gothamist points out that state law ensures that kids “have a legal right to get sexual-health services without [anyone’s permission].” The same goes for Snapchatting.
