Mayor Bloomberg Has Lost the Will to Ban Things

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg delivers the annual State of the City address at the Barclays Center on February 14, 2013 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. Bloomberg cited positive statistics including a record 52 million visitors to the city and a record low 419 homicides in 2012 while calling for a ban on styrofoam in the city.

Mayor Bloomberg already revised the city’s noise code back in 2005, but now that he’s cracked down on smoking, trans fats, and absurdly large beverages, he’s circled back around to the topic. This time he’s launching a $250,000 social media campaign urging people to turn down the volume in their earbuds. It feels like Bloomberg’s slacking off on this one, so we’re refusing to comply until he issues a ban on loud music or personally yanks the wires out of our ears.
