There have been several attempts to upgrade the technology in New York City taxis recently, but now members of City Council are focusing on something more basic: making cabs less filthy. According to the Post, they said the Taxi and Limousine Commission should apply the “broken windows” theory in cabs, addressing as many incidents as possible and increasing the fine for a filthy interior from $25. “If you had the same conditions in restaurants, they’d be shut down,” City Councilman David Greenfield said at a TLC budget hearing. That’s true, but hopefully few meals are being prepared in the back of a taxi.
