Yesterday, the Times reported that Major League Baseball investigators had taken the unusual step of buying documents from an ex-employee of a clinic in Miami that has been accused of supplying banned performance enhancing drugs to a number of baseball players, including human money pit Alex Rodriguez. The MLB “felt compelled to pay money for documents because its officials had been concerned that more than one player was trying to do the same,” presumably to destroy them or at least keep them from prying eyes.
Now a new Times report reveals that, yep, A-Rod is one of the mystery buyers. Nevertheless, there’s pretty much nothing the Yankees can do to rid themselves of A-Rod’s God-awful contract, even if he is eventually disciplined by the league for violating its drug policy. A-Rod is owed $114 million over the next five seasons.
