Accused Racists Are Still Using the ‘Black Friend’ Defense, at Least in Kansas

The pony express has yet to deliver the news to Kansas county commissioner Jim Giles — who casually dropped the phrase “nigger-rigging” at a meeting the other day — that the “I have a black friend” defense became a joke about, what, two, three decades ago? And we believe “I have built homes for colored people” was banned around 1967.
