If you knew nothing about Newt Gingrich’s taste in pop culture, you’d probably assume that he listens to Frankie Valli and watches PBS documentaries about colonial times. But Gingrich is not quite so easy to pigeonhole. He’s such a huge fan of ABBA that he made “Dancing Queen” his ringtone. He’d seen The Hangover seven times as of October 2011 and has probably watched it at least seventeen times by now. He prepped for a primary debate with Bridesmaids. And, apparently, he and his current wife binge-watch Downton Abbey into the wee hours of the morning:

I have to tell you, I’m slightly not awake yet because once again last night we watched an additional episode of ‘Downton Abbey,’” Gingrich says. “One night last week we were up until two in the morning because it was one of those, ‘We have to see the next one.’”

“We’re trying to finish it this week,” he adds.

Gingrich calls Downton “a great study in plot,” as if it were a classic novel and he’s teaching a college course in British literature.
