NYPD Rocking Fancy New Android Phones (That Don’t Make Calls)

Rather than wait for the slow, spotty computer systems mounted to cop cars, a new smartphone pilot program has armed about 400 New York City officers with Android phones to access criminal databases, the Times reports. While the handheld machines can display warrants, incident reports, and mugshots instantly, they “cannot make or receive calls,” which hopefully means texts and Snapchats are out, too, minimizing on-the-job, company phone sexting scandals, for now.
