However, the city will still mostly rely on sandbags and plywood to fend off floods in the near future, as the MTA’s proposed higher-tech plans for protecting the system — which include “aboveground floodwall panels” and “inflatable plugs” — won’t be ready by the time the next hurricane season rolls around.
