cicada plague

World’s Worst Live-Cam Now Just Streaming a Pile of Dead Streaming a New Batch of Live Cicadas [Updated]

Live video by Animal Planet L!ve

At least when it showed cicadas “crawling, flying and mating en masse,” as the Washington Post described the scene a few days ago, the Science Channel’s cicada cam could provide cicada nerds with some gross entertainment. Now the stream just shows a pile of dead cicadas, as incongruous cicada-porn music continues to play on a loop.

Update, 11:03 a.m.: So, uh, it turns out that the cicadas are not dead. They are suddenly crawling all over the place and are very much alive. After sitting perfectly still for the last hour. Cicadas are even creepier than we realized.

Update, 11:11 a.m.: Thanks to commenter Bombtomb for pointing out that Animal Planet replaced the old batch of dead cicadas with a new batch of live cicadas. (“Hi everyone. We have a new batch up [sic] Cicadas on the way shortly!”) Phew. We are not crazy.
