The organizers of the effort to recall Phoenix Sheriff Joe Arpaio won’t say how far short they fell, but it was short enough. They needed 335,000 signatures to force a recall election, and by the deadline Thursday they didn’t have them. Five weeks ago, they had collected 200,000 signatures, the Associated Press reported. Still, that’s a lot of signatures for a group that didn’t even have an opposing candidate.
