Anthony Weiner’s hiring of a young, relatively untested campaign manager seemed to indicate he was having trouble recruiting the best talent for his impending mayoral campaign. On Tuesday night, The New York Times reported that the consulting firm Weiner had engaged for much of his career, GMMB, had decided not to work with him on this race. “Several former Congressional aides, as well as outsiders whom Mr. Weiner has sought to recruit, have also turned him down.” But Weiner says the notion that he’s having a hard time staffing up is nonsense. “We’re having no trouble attracting interest; that’s for sure,” he said, according to The New York Daily News. It’s expected he would say that, but as New York’s Chris Smith pointed out, Weiner has a reputation for keeping his own council anyway. So maybe tough recruiting isn’t much of a problem after all.
