With last week’s Supreme Court rulings that overturned DOMA and effectively eliminated Prop 8, New York’s LGBT community and the people who love them took to the streets to celebrate gay pride in an extra big way this weekend. Sunday’s parade was led by Grand Marshall Edie Windsor, the plaintiff in the DOMA case, and saw appearances by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Governor Andrew Cuomo, as well as mayoral candidates Christine Quinn and Anthony Weiner. (We’re sorry to have missed some of those jokes.) While other parts of the United States and the world also cheered celebrated Pride Weekend weekend (both successfully and not, unfortunately), the merriment on 5th Avenue covered a lot of ground.
