Kevin Patrick Smith, who once served ten years for bank robbery, spent quite a bit of time planning his next heist, but not enough time thinking it through. Smith was arrested on Monday outside his Upper East Side building for allegedly plotting to rob a Wells Fargo bank in New Paltz. Police say he recruited an accomplice last week who turned out to be an FBI informant. The feds secretly recorded Smith’s conversations as he plotted to pick up his partner and a handgun hidden in a Bronx storage facility, then have an unsuspecting livery cab driver take him all the way to New Paltz at a cost of $530 round trip. The to-do list found in his apartment that listed “rob bank” won’t help his case either.
