
The ACLU’s lawsuit hopes to turn Pennsylvania from the only state in the northeast that bans gay marriage and does not allow civil unions into the fourteenth state in the nation to legalize gay marriage. The filing — on behalf of ten gay couples, two children, and a widow from a same-sex couple — is not directly tied to the Supreme Court’s recent DOMA ruling, but it does quote the decision, which said a marriage ban denies couples “a dignity and status of immense import.”
