Edward Snowden does not expect to be able to make it to Venezuela or Nicaragua, the two countries that have offered him asylum, without getting intercepted by the United States en route. But he could travel a much shorter distance, into the Russian capital’s city center. Snowden’s Russian lawyer Anatoly Kucherena, who helped him apply for asylum in Russia, tells Reuters: “He should get this certificate (allowing him to leave the airport) shortly,” hopefully by Wednesday. Expect Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin’s social schedules to get even more complicated.
