The hellish scene at a Monday night municipal meeting in Ross Township, Pennsylvania, started with chunks of plaster flying from one wall as a gunman armed with an automatic pistol suddenly began firing through it before walking into the meeting and shooting, apparently at random. When the gunfire was over, six people had been hit, three of them fatally according to the Pocono Record. “All I saw was the holes go through the wall,” wrote Record reporter Chris Reber, who was at the meeting. “I saw smoke and plaster flying out, blowing out through the walls.”
The gunman went to his car to get another weapon, and when he came back, Bernie Kozen, the commissioner of the West End Open Space Commission, “bearhugged him and took him down,” then shot the gunman with his own weapon, Reber reported. The gunman survived, and was in police custody at a hospital, the AP reports, but there’s still no word on who he is or why he might have gone on the shooting rampage.
