With a few hot spots still smoldering along New Jersey’s Seaside Park and Seaside Heights boardwalk, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced an initial aid package of $15 million for the more than 50 businesses that were damaged or destroyed in Thursday’s six-alarm fire there. The money will come from programs meant to help with recovery from Hurricane Sandy, though businesses that did not have the misfortune to be wrecked by both the storm and the blaze will be able to use the funds. Meanwhile, the investigation into the cause of the fire continues, with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office denying yesterday’s reports that the situation has been labeled “suspicious.”
