Time Editor Rick Stengel Ditching Magazine for State Department

Another loss for legacy newsweeklies, which continue to struggle: Stengel will leave Time to become the under-secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, Capital New York and Politico report. (He’s the second high-profile journalist to join the government this month.) But his exit could leave an opening for soon-to-be free agent Tina Brown, if she wants a do-over on that failed Newsweek experiment.
