Cops Not Into Video of Daredevil Driving Really Fast Around Manhattan

A highly skilled driver calling himself AfroDuck claims to have set the record for fastest lap around Manhattan last week, circling the island in just 24 minutes, averaging 66 mph. He then put video footage of the hypnotic, Drive-like drive around the city — set to electronic music — on YouTube and gave an anonymous interview to Jalopnik, just daring the NYPD to catch him. Sure enough, “Police Commissioner Ray Kelly promised to hunt down the dangerous driver,” the New York Post reports, “saying ‘We now have license-plate readers in the city that will assist in this type of investigation.’”

You frankly can’t identify who I am by just looking at the video and records were meant to be broken,” said the driver, who used a 2006 BMW Z4 for the trip. “I’ll release my name a year from now,” he teased.

Being a fast driver doesn’t mean that you’re inherently a bad or reckless driver,” he added. “I’m in control.” The video evidence backs him up, but he’ll probably get in trouble anyway.
