long goodbyes

Farewell, Roseland Ballroom

An internal e-mail obtained by Billboard reveals that 52nd Street’s Roseland Ballroom, which has been one of New York’s premier concert spots since it was converted from an ice-skating rink in 1958, plans to shut its doors in April. No official reason has been given yet, but Billboard speculates that the decision is “likely related more to property values” than to the still popular and busy 3,500-seat venue’s “bottom line.” A look at the space’s upcoming schedule shows that Danzig, Fitz & the Tantrums, The Wanted, Pretty Lights, Hoodie Allen, and Panic! at the Disco will get a chance to play there before whatever high-profile show closes the place for good come spring.
