63-year-old Francisco Rafael Arellano Félix, who used to be the leader of Mexico’s massive Tijuana Cartel, was shot in the head during a family party in Baja California on Friday. “A person dressed as a clown took his life,” a spokesman for the state prosecutor’s office told Reuters. The costumed killer (who local media reports said had two accomplices) fled the scene, and the police are investigating “the possibility that [he] had ties to organized crime.” Others are chalking it up to the clown’s innate desire to do scary things.
