Rupert Murdoch’s Editors Had an Affair During Phone Hacking

Former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks arrives at the Old Bailey for the phone-hacking conspiracy trial on October 30, 2013 in London, England. Downing Street's former director of communications and News Of The World editor Andy Coulson and the former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks, along with six others, face a series of charges linked to phone hacking celebrities and those in the news at the now-defunct newspaper.

The prosecutor in Britain’s big phone-hacking trial, in which eight former employees of Rupert Murdoch have been charged, dropped a tabloid scoop on the jury today. It turns out that former News of the World editors Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson, the latter of whom went on to become communications director for Prime Minister David Cameron, carried on an affair for at least six years while working at the paper. (The pair are charged along with Brooks’s husband, making things extra awkward.) Earlier blind reports in the British press hinted at a “dynamite” affair involving Downing Street that some guessed was between Murdoch’s soon-to-be-ex-wife Wendi and Tony Blair, but this will just have to do for now.
