Gay Marriage Is Legal in Illinois Now, Too

It’s official: Illinois is the sixteenth state to make same-sex marriage legal, after Governor Pat Quinn signed the bill making it so on a desk once used by Abraham Lincoln. The law takes effect June 1, just in time for prime wedding season, and though that’s a Sunday, the county clerk of Cook County told the Chicago Tribune his staff will be at work to grant licenses.
