Liz Cheney Emphatically Reminds Wyoming She’s Been There

Even if her carpetbagger reputation isn’t the issue that does in Liz Cheney’s Senate candidacy, it was pegged early on as a key weakness. And it’s the focus of her first campaign ad, which makes it very clear that Cheney’s family has a connection to the state, and she has, in fact, been there. Repeatedly! “Twenty years ago, Phil and I were married here in Wyoming, and today we’re raising our kids here,” Cheney reminds voters, who probably already know she family moved to the state from Washington D.C. last year. “I went to Park Elementary School and Dean Morgan Junior High,” both in Casper, before attending high school in Virginia and then college in Colorado.

Oh, also, incumbent Republican Senator Mike Enzi is old: “I’m running for the United States Senate because it’s time for a new generation of leaders to step up to the plate.”

The ad starts airing Thursday, and it has a lot of work to do, as the latest poll (albeit conducted by a super PAC that’s been campaigning against her) has her trailing by 52 points.
