Representative Grace Meng, a freshman congresswoman from Queens, was mugged on Tuesday night as she walked to her Capitol Hill apartment after having dinner with a friend. At around 8:30 p.m., Meng was attacked from behind at Sixth Street Southeast and Pennsylvania Avenue. “I didn’t see anyone coming,” she told the Daily News. “I just got hit on the head. I must have fallen.” Meng was disoriented when police found her and can’t remember anything after she was hit, but she said her Gucci bag had been stolen. She was treated at the hospital for her head injury and some minor bruises and scrapes, and was back in the House by Wednesday afternoon. “I’m from New York City and I have not been mugged like that,” she said. “But the Capitol Police were great, the D.C. Police Department was very helpful.”
