Bill de Blasio set aside 1,000 inauguration tickets for members of the general public, but his real swearing-in will be a much more exclusive affair. Twelve hours before Bill Clinton administers the oath of office on the steps of City Hall, De Blasio will be sworn in by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman in his Park Slope brownstone, surrounded by his wife Chirlane McCray, and children Chiara and Dante. Mayors usually take the oath before the official ceremony so the city never goes without a mayor, but with his private family gathering, De Blasio has opted for the exact opposite of Bloomberg’s swearing-ins, which took place atop a Times Square skyscraper moments after the ball drop. De Blasio hasn’t invited any press into his Brooklyn home, but the event will stream live on NYC.gov if you have nothing better to do at 12:01 a.m.
