The Harvard student whom federal prosecutors are charging with e-mailing bomb threats to campus officials in the hopes of avoiding a final exam used two different identity-obscuring technologies to send his message, the Associated Press reports. The student, 20-year-old Eldo Kim, went online using Tor, a tool that obscures users’ IP address. Then he used Gorilla Mail, which provides temporary and anonymous email addresses, to send a message saying shrapnel bombs would go off in two to four buildings, prosecutors said. But in order to get onto Tor, Kim used Harvard’s own wireless network, NBC reports, and that’s how authorities caught him. Kim, who according to the AP faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for placing bomb threats, is due in court Wednesday.
