For the second time this year, the Washington Post found itself the victim of a cyber attack, this time by suspected Chinese hackers who accessed its employee user names and passwords. The paper is still investigating the extent of the intrusion, which it said started with a server used by foreign staff before spreading to other servers over the course of a few days. Unlike the attack by the Syrian Electronic Army in August, which redirected readers to another site, this one seems to have been mostly behind the scenes. “Officials said they saw no evidence that subscriber information, such as credit cards or home addresses, was accessed by the hackers. Nor was there any sign that the hackers had gained access to The Post’s publishing system, e-mails or sensitive personal information of employees, such as their Social Security numbers,” the Post reported.
