The New York Times reports that the Republican Speaker of the House has committed to “step by step moves to revise immigration laws,” which means he’s preparing himself for another fight with the tea party in 2014 (just in case you didn’t get that from the end-of-the-year press conference in which he said far-right groups have “lost all credibility.”) Sources predict that the push to pass legislation in the House will likely happen early in the summer, when Republican lawmakers will no longer have to worry about more conservative primary challengers — and just in time for them to benefit from the goodwill a successful bill would bring from Latino voters during midterm elections.
