Someday we’ll look back on today as an important milestone in our march toward abandoning elections in favor of selecting our leaders via reality competition show. The Washington Blade reports that singer Clay Aiken, of American Idol and coming out on the cover of People fame, is “actively considering” a run for Congress. He’s reportedly talked with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and met with other political operatives in D.C. and North Carolina about a run in his home state’s 2nd congressional district. The seat is currently held by Republican Representative Renee Ellmers, and North Carolina Commerce Secretary Keith Crisco is the only other Democrat expected to run … so far. Don’t take this from him too, Ruben Studdard.
