Back in August, The Guardian announced that, under the direction of agents from the GCHQ (Britain’s answer to the NSA), it had destroyed the hard drives and computers that contained the files Edward Snowden leaked from the NSA. Of course, The Guardian pointed out, it still had plenty of other copies. But it still went through with the physical destruction that, as a video the paper released on Friday shows, was surprisingly labor-intensive. Power drills, angle grinders, vices … Who says journalism isn’t a blue-collar job?
